Hello? ... Is this thing on?

Oh haiii, all!

It’s been a minute! Over a year? Goodness gracious, my last post was in March of 2016. YOWZERS!

Welp, some things have changed, some things haven’t, a little catchup:

  • WORK – I’m still with Bronto, the startup I was working at before, only it’s not really a startup anymore. We’ve been aquired... twice. We’re now part of a GINORMOUS corporation, which has it’s advantages and it’s drawbacks... but overall is fine. I’ve moved up and now manage digital content for the Sales Org, which is lovely, in that I’m doing a little bit of everything that I’m really good at (design, creative direction, editing, etc). The benes are great and Patrick has also moved up to a fancy-pants engineering role, which has been hard-earned and much deserved!
  • HOME – We’ve moved to a new apartment in Durham: same building, slightly more space. We’re still trying to decide if we want to call Durham home or not, so we put our home buying plans on hold for a bit. We’ve both moved up in Bronto, but we’re not totally sold on sticking around for more than the next few years, and with the economic climate in the US in flux (thanks Trump, you jerk) we’re not sure taking on a mortgage is a good fiscal decision just yet. So we’ve signed a 12 month lease on an apartment with a bit more room because...
  • WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!!! – I’m due on February 2nd of this next year (SOOO close!). Honest to god, we couldn’t be more excited!

We’d been going back and forth on whether or not we should wait another year, especially with so much uncertainty in the world around us, but Patrick took me out on my birthday and our agreement each year is to come back to our big “state of the us” talk each birthday and the topic came up and we just both spontaneously were like “let’s do it!”. We’d spent SO MANY YEARS putting this off because we felt like we could be in a better place financially, job-wise, location-wise, mindset-wise, health-wise; but when it came right down to it, there’s never a “right time”. I think we knew that, but didn’t, you know?

So here we are! Things have honestly been fantastic! With a difficult history in this department that made us truly terrified we’d have a struggle getting to this point, it turns out, someone above was looking out for us and we conceived fairly quickly and, minus a horrendously sick first/half of second trimester, things have gone by-the-book and baby and I are doing great!

I’m safely at 34 weeks and so far, so good! We’ve decided not to find out the gender and we’re now just nesting and preparing ourselves for bey’s upcoming arrival. Our new flat has a great little nook that we’re creating a space for baby in, so we’re diving into that now. We’re trying to keep things simple and staying committed to our goal of adhering to a fairly minimalist lifestyle, even though babies come with a CRAPLOAD of stuff. Good lord. SO. MUCH. STUFF. That said, we’re trying to keep things in perspective and stick with the basics and then pick up anything we’ll need along the way.

ALL THAT SAID, since our family and friends are spread out around the world, I thought firing this blog back up would be a good way to keep everyone up to date as we take on this great adventure! I’ve really missed having a place to share my thoughts and everybody loves pictures of babies, so, I’m hoping everyone will enjoy following along with us as I finish out this journey of pregnancy and dive into parenthood.

I’ve loved keeping a journal throughout my pregnancy and I’m thinking I’ll take a look through things and share a bit of how things have gone to catch everyone up and some lessons learned along the way. I’ve been blown away by the Mamas who have shared their knowledge with me, and I’m hoping I can pay it forward to share some of the things I’ve learned in my pregnancy journey as well. I know a few friends who are thinking or trying to start on their journey to parenthood, and I’d love to share lessons learned and tips and tricks that have served me well along the way.

I hope you’ll join me as I pick things back up and post annoying amounts of pictures of the baby and the dogs, as they’re still my first babies! I look forward to having a place to share #allthethings and, hopefully, provide a fun place to share what I’m learning and experiencing with you all! Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts you’d like to hear, I’ll be happy to answer, no limits, no filters!
